St Valentine's Day...full of oddities

So St Valentine of Rome is the patron saint of love...great.  But did you also know he is the patron saint of: affianced couples, against epilepsy, against fainting, against plague, bee keepers, betrothed couples, Bussolengo, Italy, engaged couples, greeting card manufactures (HAHA...that's funny), greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, travellers, young people.  He was beaten and beheaded in 296.  Niiiiice.

So today in this house we are full of oddities.  Day started with our poor cat Munchkin not doing so well and on the verge of death.  We had our godson's birthday party to go to also.  I had pretty much settled myself with the fact that Munch was gone.  I went thru that yesterday.  Today was the end.  I took the short ones to the party and Hubby stayed with Munchkin.  I called during cake to see how things were and Hubby said she had just passed.  I shed a quick tear and then wiped the blue icing off of Frank's face knowing that would stain his shirt when he wiped it himself.

I have a wonderful Hubby and he "took care" of Munchkin's remains before the kids and I returned home.  He took her to the vet (our back yard is not very suitable for pet burying).  I really respect him a lot for this and love him with all of my heart.

The kids are ok with all of this.  Munchkin wasn't the social type of cat around the kids.  Kept to herself upstairs.  Usually sleeping on our bed or in our bathroom sink.  She will be missed.  RIP Munchie.

Then kids went down for nap.  Aili got up and then curled up on the couch.  She looked sad so I went to her to talk to her and noticed SHE CUT HER HAIR!!  It took every inch of my being to not yell at her.  But I just couldn't.  I started to laugh.  She cut her bangs so they are now about 1/2 inch in parts and then on this odd slant.  She also took a nice chunk out of the left side by her ear.  I called my next door neighbor who cuts hair and left her a panicked message about this hair emergency.  Then sat Aili down and had a talk about who cuts hair and why.  I then hid the scissors.  I keep a pair in their bathroom for cutting her bangs every few weeks.  Those are now out of kid reach.  I should have known.  Oh well.

And, get this, we are supposed to have a photographer come out to the house on Saturday to take family pictures.  Ummmm....they may be postponed.  I will see what the neighbor can do with this, if anything and take it from there.

Oh and Hubby and I don't really celebrate Valentines Day.  Not really a big deal.  People ask what he got me and I answer with nothing and they look surprised because I'm not upset.  Seriously, not a big deal.  I didn't want nor need anything.

This is going to be a Valentines Day I will soon not forget.

Added:  It got stranger.  My MOM...yes my MOM who is almost 67 years old  sent me a text message on my cell phone.  First she gets on Facebook now she can text message.  What has this world come to?  Technology in the hands of senior citizens is a scary thought.

  1. LOL! One of my sisters did the same when she was 5 years old, she cut part of her bangs to 1/2 inch the day before school pictures. She's never lived it down, but it's one of my father's favorite pictures of her. It's 40 years old and the 8 x 10 is still on my parent's shelf. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. It's difficult to lose pets.
